NATIONAL HIGHWAY CAMPAIGN ON NH 34//12 UNDER KRISHNANAGAR(KALIRHAT), DHUBULIYA, NAKASHIPARA & KALIGANJ(UPTO CHANDANPUR BUS STOP)

We started our campaigning from Itla More under Krishnanagar PS. Our previous day visit on 30.12.2019 ended at Katowa More under Debagram IC of Kaliganj PS, which was a span of 46 KM. From Itla More to Digendra Setu, a span of 8 KM is narrowed down as the highway expansion work is underway in this area and both side of the road are filled with road construction materials. Here traffic movement is very slow and rate of accident is less as stated by the local people, civic volunteers and SI Bidyut Halder of Kotwali PS whom we met at Mayapur Bye Pass Crossing. While campaigning in this area, we visited Durgapur Anandamoy B. Ed. College with a proposal of CPR and BLS Training Programme at their institute. We had a thorough discussion with the Secretary of the college Mr. Jayanta Saha regarding the training programme. He showed interest and he proposed 11th February,2020 after verifying all their upcoming engagements .We told him the date could be confirmed only after consulting our team of doctors. From Bahadurpur under Dhubulia PS upto Taltola more under Nakashipara PS, the highway will be expanded to 4 – lane. We observed that the Road Over Bridge at Kalitala Crossing has completed and open for traffic. We found less number of hotels and dhabas beside the high way although small shops are there. A Toll Plaza is under construction near Taltola More under Nakashipara PS. From there about 4 KM of the highway is again narrowed down due to the construction work. Vehicles of both bound are plying through the single lane. We noticed an awareness campaigning procession organized by Nakashipara PS with the police personnel and the Civic Volunteers. Near Chandanpur Bus Stop under Kaliganj PS, Bismillah hotel has been constructed. There is a Montessori School named Golden Wings just beside the hotel. From there the highway has been reduced again to a single lane for the next 2 KMs and accidents are taking place in this area quite frequently. We found many Civic Volunteers deployed throughout this span. But due to the construction / widening job, all the road side hotels, dhabas and small shops have been demolished. As per the Civic Volunteers and the local people, highway expansion work would take another couple of years to complete. They also said that number of accidents have reduced but has not stopped completely. It would be helpful if they get ambulance on demand at the earliest possible time. A watch tower has come up at Nagadi Bazar area under Nakashipara PS on the Berhampore bound. In this visit we met around 160 people, visited 14 petrol pumps, 14 hotels and dhabas and 52 roadside shops.
