What is HRP?

Highway Rescue Project is the first initiative for trauma care of Accident victim on highways of India. It ensures evacuation, rescue and pre-hospital care for the accident victims on Indian Highways

In India in every 1.9 minutes one trauma related death takes place, affecting the most productive age group (20 - 40 years). Lack of medical attention has been attributed 30% of the death at the site and 70% of the remaining patient dying within an hour of injury.

Most of these deaths are due to air way problem, respiratory failure or continuing hemorrhage which can be prevented to a great extent with appropiate Pre-Hospital Emergency Care.. Considering the urgency of immediate treatment, 'The Golden Hour' and 'Platinum 10 Minutes' concepts has been developed to minimize the gap between the time of injury and initial medical attention.

SAVE LIFE FOUNDATION & HIGHWAY RESCUE PROJECT

Save Life Foundation is a Kolkata based ‘Non Government and Non Profit Organization’ which is operating independently the ‘Highway Rescue Project’ in West Bengal. Save Life Foundation launched ‘HRP’ in West Bengal on 23rd July 2007, with know how from Varodara based internationally reputed NGO – ‘Life Line Foundation’, who is the pioneer of the concept of this Highway Rescue Project in India. At the very beginning Save Life Foundation of West Bengal was assisted and guided by Life Line Foundation. A MOU was signed between Save Life Foundation and Life Line Foundation to carry the project forward over a period of three years (2007 – 31st March 2010) and during these three years Life Line Foundation will source corporate partners for fundings and provide technical know how to Save Life Foundation. After that Save Live Foundation will work independently with own source of fund. So from 2010 April Save Life Foundation set the foot independently without outsource funding to initiate the Highway Rescue Project till September 2010. National Rural Health Mission of India started funding Save Life Foundation to move forward the Highway Rescue Project from October 2010 -2011.Funding by NRHM lasted for a year only. After that Save Life Foundation again started moving forward the HR project independently from November 2011 to 2012 March. During this period no outsource funding was available to continue our noble efforts. From 2012 April Health & Family Welfare Department of West Bengal Government joins hand together with Save Life Foundation. They started funding the Highway Rescue Project. Till today the Health & Family Welfare Department is giving the entire support to strengthen the initiative and to make the project successful. Without the help of the Department it could have been a great difficulty to carry forward.
